IPTV Subscription Cost: A Worksheet for Comparing the Full Price

Choose the same period; Add required fees; Check renewal terms
Original checklist diagram; not evidence of provider testing.

The cheapest advertised IPTV plan is not necessarily the cheapest setup for your household. Compare the amount you will actually pay over the same period, for the same number of simultaneous viewers, including any separate player licence and renewal price.

This worksheet contains hypothetical examples, not current provider quotes or test results. We have commercial relationships with some services featured on this website. Check availability, content rights and current written terms before buying.

Set one comparison period first

Choose a period such as three months or twelve months and use it for every offer. A monthly price beside a yearly price is not a fair comparison until both are calculated over the same period. Record the currency as well. Do not silently treat a Canadian-dollar quote as US dollars, or assume a payment processor's exchange rate will stay unchanged.

Separate the total committed payment from the monthly equivalent. A yearly package can have a lower monthly equivalent while requiring more cash upfront. That matters when you have not yet checked device compatibility, support and the content you actually need.

Use this cost worksheet

Copy these fields into a note for each shortlisted service. Put “unknown” next to missing information instead of treating it as free. The worksheet is useful precisely because it exposes unanswered questions before checkout.

Information to collect for each offer
Cost or conditionWhat to record
Base subscriptionCurrency, amount, billing interval and required upfront payment.
Simultaneous screensNumber included; extra charge for the number your household needs.
Player applicationWhether a separate licence is required, and whether it renews.
EquipmentOnly equipment you actually need to purchase for this setup.
Other feesTaxes and payment fees shown at checkout; do not guess.
RenewalDate, normal price after any promotion and how to cancel.
EvidenceLink or saved quote, date checked and unresolved questions.

Calculate the total without double-counting

Comparison-period cost = subscription payments + required screen add-ons + required app fees + necessary new equipment + disclosed taxes and transaction fees. Include only costs incurred during your selected period. If a fee is already included in the quoted package, do not add it again. A device you already own is not a new purchase unless it cannot run the setup you intend to use.

Keep your existing internet bill separate unless choosing the service genuinely requires an upgrade. In that case, record the additional internet cost rather than attributing your entire household broadband bill to IPTV. The aim is a transparent comparison, not an artificially cheap or expensive result.

Worked example: lower headline price, higher total

Suppose hypothetical Offer A costs $12 per month for one screen, with a second screen costing $5 per month and a required app licence costing $10 once. Over three months, the known total is (12 × 3) + (5 × 3) + 10 = $61, before any undisclosed taxes or fees.

Hypothetical Offer B costs $18 per month for two simultaneous screens and includes the required player access. Its three-month known total is 18 × 3 = $54. Offer A's advertised base price is lower, but it is $7 more expensive for this particular two-screen example. Neither calculation establishes quality, licensing, reliability or suitability.

Read “devices” and “connections” carefully

An account that can be installed on several devices may still allow only one stream at a time. Ask for the simultaneous-viewing limit in writing. Also ask whether viewing in another household is permitted; do not assume that paying for two connections grants that permission.

If an offer is unclear, send: “For two televisions watching different programmes at the same time, what is the total amount due today, the renewal amount, and any separate app charge?” This is more useful than asking only for the cheapest package.

Check renewal before you enter payment details

A promotion can change the calculation after its first billing period. Record when it ends, whether renewal is automatic, the amount expected afterwards and the cancellation method. Save the terms you agreed to and any cancellation confirmation. The FTC's consumer guidance on trials and renewals recommends checking ongoing charges and cancellation details before signing up. This is general consumer guidance, not a promise about a particular seller's refund policy.

Make the decision in the right order

  1. Reject offers that do not meet your content, regional-availability or device requirements.
  2. Resolve unknown screen, app and renewal charges.
  3. Use any legitimately offered trial to check your actual setup.
  4. Compare the remaining offers over the same period.
  5. Choose a commitment you are comfortable paying—not merely the lowest monthly equivalent.

Use our service comparison for your shortlist, then read the difference between an IPTV app and a service and the trial comparison checklist. If TereaTV is on your shortlist, check TereaTV for current plans, then confirm the final billing total before ordering. We do not publish a price here that could be mistaken for a live quote.
